ENGEO Expands Leadership Team in 2024 in US, NZ, and AU

ENGEO thrives on delivering top expertise and exceptional service. Today marks a significant announcement of a promotion of eleven outstanding individuals, including six new Principals and five new Associates. These professionals consistently demonstrate their commitment to serving clients and colleagues throughout the Western United States, Guam, Australia, and New Zealand. It’s a testament to their hard work and expertise, and we take pride in celebrating this achievement within our team.

We are thrilled and humbled at the calibre of our new Associates and Principals in 2024 – we continue to raise the bar each and every year and I am so grateful to each and every one who have accepted the challenge.  This directly reflects their personal commitment to the success of our clients and colleagues they serve.  2024 will be an exciting year ahead,” says Guy Cassidy, CEO of ENGEO Australia and New Zealand operations.

Ian McCreery, PE, GE, Matt Packard, CMEngNZ, Adam Smith, CMEngNZ, Alexis Colina, CPEng, RPEQ, NER, Mark Broughton, CPEng have accepted the challenge of Associate, and Jeff Braun, GE, PMP, Matt Swanson, PE, QSD, Ben O’Loughlin, CMEngNZ, Josh Armstrong, RPGEO, Tomasz Krawczynski, CMEngNZ-RPEQ, and David Brodie, BEng(Hons) have risen to challenge of Principal,” says Uri Eliahu, ENGEO’s CEO. NEW PRINCIPALS

Jeff Braun, GE, PMP | Irvine, California

Jeff has been named Principal. Jeff brings 24 years of experience in geotechnical design, review, and project management services for projects throughout the world including Guam, California, Afghanistan, and Iraq. He has provided master planning, design, construction management, and inspection services on projects in several countries with international clients and contractors.  Jeff’s recent project management and environmental project experience includes the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art at Exposition Park, X-Ray Wharf at Naval Base Guam, LA Metro Purple Line Extension, LA Aerial Rapid Transit, World Logistics Center in Moreno Valley, and the Grayson Repowering Project in Glendale. Prior to joining ENGEO, Jeff served as an Engineer Officer in the U.S. Army providing master planning, design, construction management, and inspection services on projects in several countries with international clients and contractors.

ENGEO has provided me with great opportunities to work with amazing people on several once-in-a-lifetime projects. I am honored to be trusted with this role to serve and represent our staff that have contributed so greatly to my growth and the success I have witnessed over my 9 years at ENGEO.”

Matt Swanson, PE, QSD | Irvine, California 

Matt has been named Principal. Matt has been working at ENGEO for the last 23 years. He leads ENGEO’s Irvine office providing geotechnical, water resources, and environmental engineering services. He has been involved in numerous projects throughout California. Matt specializes in evaluating and reporting earthwork grading and improvements, testing and observation, foundation design, geotechnical explorations, construction and post-construction BMP design, and levee evaluation.

Ben O’Loughlin, CMEngNZ | Tauranga, New Zealand 

Ben has been named Principal. Ben is a Chartered Engineering Geologist with over 2years of experience in the consulting engineering industry working across New Zealand, Australia and the United Kingdom. Through his career to date Ben has delivered engineering geology and geotechnical engineering services for numerous clients and projects across a wide range of markets including transportation; buildings, land development; telecommunications; water and municipal infrastructure. Ben has an extensive track record of major infrastructure project delivery where he has specialised in site characterisation, geohazard assessment and risk management. He has a huge passion for working on technically challenging and meaningful projects, especially those that positively benefit our communities. Ben enjoys tackling complex problems and working collaboratively to develop effective, pragmatic and innovative engineering solutions.

Josh Armstrong, RPGEO | Brisbane, Queensland 

Josh has been named Principal and leads our Brisbane, Australia Office. Josh has over fifteen years of professional experience working for both ENGEO and Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR). Josh’s project experience covers a broad range of industries including transportation and infrastructure, land development, renewable energy, and buildings (including residential, commercial, and multi-story). Project involvement from feasibility, through detailed design, procurement and into construction monitoring.  Josh’s specialty areas are geotechnical site investigation, geological modelling, slope stability, project management, geotechnical analysis, quality assurance and report writing. He has very strong communication skills and thrives in leading a project team environment.

Tomasz Krawczynski, CMEngNZ-RPEQ | Brisbane, Australia 

Tomasz has been named Principal. Tomasz is a Chartered Geotechnical Engineer with over seventeen years of professional consultancy experience in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and Poland.
Tomasz’s project experience covers a broad range of industries including transportation and infrastructure, land development, conventional and renewable energy, buildings, industrial facilities and waste management. Tomasz’s knowledge incorporates geotechnical hazard and risk assessment and remediation, slope stability analysis, geotechnical design of foundations and retaining walls, safety in design, remote monitoring, and geotechnical construction monitoring. Special interests include finite-element analysis, computer-aided modeling, foundation design, slope-stability analysis, and implementation of CAD and GIS in geotechnical engineering. 

Nothing of significance was ever achieved by an individual acting alone – J.C. Maxwell. 

David Brodie, BEng(Hons) | Auckland, New Zealand 

David Brodie has been named Principal. He has experience working in technical and project management roles on a range of geotechnical and civil projects in New Zealand and overseas. David has worked on large-scale projects for over 18 years in both the civil and geotechnical fields. Davids’s experience extends across a wide range of market sectors including residential, industrial, commercial, energy and infrastructure. David also has extensive overseas remote work experience working throughout Asia-Pacific on infrastructure and energy projects. 

David leads the Client Development for ENGEO across New Zealand and Australia working closely with regional leaders to develop opportunities and support our clients across the world. David has a passion for connecting with people and developing solutions to generate exceptional project outcomes.

NEW ASSOCIATES

Ian McCreery, PE, GE | Oakland, California 

Ian has been named Associate. Ian has provided geotechnical engineering services for complex and urban projects around the San Francisco Bay Area since 2014. He specializes in urban projects with deep excavations, ground improvement, temporary earth shoring systems, and dewatering design. He also has extensive experience with retaining-wall design and liquefaction mitigation. Ian appreciates pragmatic designs and strives to provide practical solutions to achieve project success. He works on urban infill developments, high-rise buildings, large-scale land developments, and hillside grading projects.

 Matt Packard, CMEngNZ | Tauranga, New Zealand  

Matt has been named Associate. Matt is a TCC Category 1 Geo-Professional and Chartered Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) with over 23 years professional consultancy experience. He has been working for private consultancies in Tauranga, New Zealand since 2005 and joined ENGEO in 2022.  He leads key projects across New Zealand and provides technical advice.  Matt has an extensive range of geotechnical experience, specialising in slope stability, compressible soils, settlement analysis, liquefaction, lateral spreading, and the design of complex temporary and permanent retaining structures. 

I’m excited about becoming an Associate at ENGEO.  My role will allow me to continue passionately serving and provide outstanding service to key clients and contributing significantly to ENGEO’s professional and technical skillsets across the business.” 

 Adam Smith,  CMEngNZ | Wellington, New Zealand 

Adam has been named Associate and leads the Wellington, New Zealand Office. Adam is an Engineering Geologist with over thirteen years’ consultancy experience throughout Australia and New Zealand. Adam’s key technical experience revolves around slope stability assessment and remediation design, geotechnical design of retaining structures, ground improvement, design and construction monitoring of large MSE walls, management of geotechnical investigations and management of large-scale residential and commercial earthworks operations.  

I’m excited to accept the challenge of becoming an Associate of ENGEO.  Since joining ENGEO I have been provided with support and encouragement that has allowed me to experience a range of opportunities within our diverse industry. I’m looking forward to helping the next generation of geoprofessionals embrace the geohazard challenges throughout the Pacific.” 

Alexis Colina, CPEng, RPEQ, NER | Adelaide, Australia 

Alexis has been named Associate.  Alexis is a Geotechnical Engineer with ENGEO in Australia with 15 years of experience both in Australia and internationally. He has been involved in different roles covering a variety of positions and responsibilities such as design, project management, business development and leadership duties. Alexis’ project experience covers a broad range of industries including transportation and infrastructure, renewable energy, buildings (including residential and commercial), defense projects, residential developments, and laboratory processes automation.  Alexis’ specialties are geotechnical modelling and site investigation, pavement design, inspection and testing plan development, construction material testing, and assessment including soil, rock and concrete. 

As I step into my new role at ENGEO, I’m energised and humbled by the challenges and opportunities it offers, and I look forward to a future where together, with determination, passion, and a shared sense of purpose, we’ll chart a course towards excellence and achieve greatness in all of our regions.” 

Mark Broughton, CPEng | Christchurch, New Zealand 

Mark has been named Associate. Mark is a Chartered Professional Geotechnical Engineer and a Recognised Dam Engineer (PIC and DSAP) with over 18 years of experience as a consultant in New Zealand. Mark has worked on a wide variety of civil and geotechnical design projects ranging from retaining wall designs along New Zealand’s State Highways to the design of new piles for the Scott Base Redevelopment in Antarctica.  Mark is passionate about Dams and is guiding clients through the Building (Dam Safety) Regulations 2022 which come into force in May 2024.
