Engeo's Role

Our involvement was to investigate the history of the site

Our involvement was to investigate the history of the site (Preliminary Site Investigation, or PSI), which went back as far as the late 1800’s when Christchurch began to expand from the central area bordered by the ‘Four Avenues’. The PSI identified several potentially contaminating activities that required further investigation including storage of fuel in an underground tank, cleaning of engine parts with a degreaser and spray painting of vehicle parts. An intrusive investigation, referred to as a Detailed Site Investigation (DSI) was then undertaken including the collection of soil samples from areas of concern over the course of a few months while the workshop buildings were being demolished. The results where then reported to the local and regional council so that the redevelopment with a modern office building could proceed.

ENGEO also carried out an Ecological Assessment to demonstrate how the new buildings enhanced the habitat with the incorporation of a ‘Green Wall’, trees and grassed areas.
